The National Center for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management launches the national project “Building Cities’ Capacity to Manage Crises and Disasters”
The National Center for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management launched the national project “Building Cities’ Capacity to Manage Crises and Disasters.” The project aims to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11 (making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable) and to raise the level of preparedness and advance planning in Libyan cities.
In addition, it aims to build cities’ capacities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises and disasters, prepare future leaders to undertake preparedness, response, and recovery tasks, and achieve coordination, cooperation, and integration among all sectors involved in preparedness, response, and recovery from crises and disasters through simulation exercises.
As a first step in the first phase of the project—Misrata as a model—a program titled “Preparing Future Leaders for Crisis and Disaster Management” was launched in Misrata from January 12 to 25, 2025.
The program included 73 trainees from various sectors involved in the city, including military, security, and civilian sectors, as well as civil society organizations.
The program concluded with a practical mobilization exercise involving trainees from all sectors involved in crisis and disaster management in the city, to support its preparedness to respond to disasters in a coordinated and organized manner based on scientific principles.
